JOB SUMMARY

The person in this position is responsible for managing the Planning Department. The manager will provide leadership and direction to their team in Production Planning and Label/Inventory Control. The manager works cross-functionally with Operations, Purchasing, IT, R&D, QA, and Finance to ensure accurate planned production attainment, inventory accuracy, and customer order fill. The manager partners with R&D to ensure development trial timelines are met. Works with others to manage inventory control to ensure accurate Job completion, MRP, BOM structures, costing inputs, liability management, and mitigate expired material exposure.

JOB ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DEPARTMENT EXPERTISE

  • Analyzes demand requirements for production based on forecast and customer orders.
  • Schedules production to support customer requirements, taking into consideration capacity and material constraints.
  • Monitors production to ensure daily production targets are met.
  • Reviews and establishes safety stock requirements for critical components.
  • Establishes and communicates lead times for top-level assemblies.
  • Performs inventory excess and obsolescence analysis for finished goods.
  • Waste Reduction Focus.
  • Supports the resolution of problems and identification of root causes and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.

DEPARTMENT SYSTEMS / PROCESS

  • Engages on the floor to ensure proper equipment capability, data collection, and inventory control accuracy.
  • Analyzes reports to flush out inaccuracies and develop a working plan to ensure desired results.
  • Understands manufacturing processes, lead times, logistics, inventory, capacities, and resources.
  • Sets up common carriers (quotes, dock appointments, shipments, etc.).
  • Reconciles par stock in cold storage.
  • Approves all freight invoices.
  • Customer shipments: issues, problems, etc.
  • Tracks inventory shipped to customers (resolves issues with shipments, i.e., late deliveries, no delivery, etc.).

DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

  • Participates in budget development to assure sound financial results for the department and company.
  • Able to work effectively with other team members within the department and cross-functionally
  • Select, train, and supervise department employees; evaluate performance to assure adherence to performance standards, taking corrective action as required. Maintain awareness of employee needs and concerns and take steps necessary to foster a positive and respectful work environment
  • Maintains working areas/environment safe and organized, following Operational Excellence standards.

LEADERSHIP

  • Leads daily plant management meetings, provides recommendations for solutions and improvements, and is viewed as a professional member of the management team.
  • Maintains close contact with all levels of the leadership team to ensure the plan is effective and buy-in is achieved.
  • Able to prioritize departmental tasks to assure team’s responsibilities are complete timely and efficient manner.
  • Promotes Safety and teamwork across all departments.
  • Develops career paths and sets objectives for direct reports.
  • Conducts training for direct reports.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position manages the Material Production Control, Label Control, and Production Planning positions.

FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying product that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company, and preventing its distribution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • B.A. degree or equivalent experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of food industry or equivalent experience required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory/management position.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel), with the ability to learn new applications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to perform unit measures, conversion calculations, and other mathematical calculations reasonably necessary to satisfactorily perform job duties.
