Position Overview
The Process Engineer is responsible for driving manufacturing performance through data-driven process improvements, with a strong focus on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), operational efficiency, and operational cost visibility.
This role combines hands-on execution on the production floor with analytical rigor to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and sustain improvements aligned with Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives. The Process Engineer partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Finance to enhance equipment performance, improve throughput, and strengthen overall manufacturing profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Process Improvement & OEE
· Support and contribute to NW’s OEE strategy through data tracking, analysis, and improvement initiatives
· Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and cost drivers
· Lead and support root cause analysis for downtime, speed loss, and quality defects
· Develop and track KPIs related to production efficiency, labor productivity, and equipment performance
· Assist in the development and maintenance of OEE dashboards and reporting tools
Production Floor Execution
· Spend the majority of time on the production floor analyzing processes and identifying improvement opportunities
· Conduct time studies and develop standard work to improve consistency, efficiency, and cost performance
· Work closely with supervisors to improve process adherence and accountability
· Support troubleshooting of production issues with a hands-on approach
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
· Identify waste and implement Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, Visual Management, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping)
· Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives and events
· Develop and implement practical solutions to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce waste, and improve workflow
· Support layout improvements and material flow optimization
Cost & Operational Analysis
· Evaluate the cost impact of production processes, labor utilization, and material usage
· Analyze and support tracking of production variances (usage, rate, efficiency, scrap, rework)
· Partner with Finance to support cost tracking, variance analysis, and margin improvement initiatives
· Support reconciliation of production data with financial reports (COGS, inventory, WIP)
· Assist in tracking and improving cost drivers impacting manufacturing performance
· Contribute to cost estimation efforts for process changes, new products, and operational scenarios
· Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining quality and operational performance
· Support data analysis related to production costs, efficiency, and profitability drivers
Systems & Data Integrity
· Support ERP data accuracy including production orders, BOMs, routings, and inventory transactions
· Assist in maintaining integrity between shop floor data and system reporting
· Collaborate in the development and improvement of dashboards and reporting tools for operational and cost visibility
· Help identify and correct data inconsistencies impacting production and financial performance
Operational & Cross-Functional Support
· Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Finance teams to implement sustainable improvements
· Assist in improving inventory accuracy and production flow
· Help document, standardize, and maintain procedures and best practices
· Ensure safety and quality standards are upheld in all process improvements
Qualifications
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred
Experience
· 0–3 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering (internships are a plus)
· Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
· Exposure to cost analysis, production variances, or financial impact of operations is a plus
Technical Skills
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic analysis)
· ERP system exposure is a plus
· Basic understanding of manufacturing cost structures (COGS, WIP, variances) is a plus
